John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) was the 35th president of the United States. He won the Pulitzer Prize for “Profiles in Courage”. He served in the US Navy, and was wounded when a Japanese destroyer cut his PT boat in half. In 1960 he became the youngest man to be elected US president. In ’62, went to the brink of nuclear war in the Cuban Missile Crisis; then in ‘63 he secured a nuclear test ban treaty with the USSR. He inspired a whole new generation to seek to better their world through government service. His life was cut short by his assassination by Lee Harvey Oswald.
